1. Gather supplies:

Supplies needed to insert a Foley catheter:

• Foley catheter
• Tape

2. Wash hands with soap and water and dry thoroughly.

3. Examine your old tube and note the discolored portion that was
inside your body. Measure the length of this discolored portion of
tubing. Now, mark your Foley catheter with this same measurement
so you will know how far to insert the Foley into the tract.

4. Very gently advance the Foley catheter into the hole in the
abdomen to the same depth as the old catheter.

5. Securely tape the remaining exterior part of the Foley catheter to
your abdomen. Do not inflate the balloon.
