| Introduction : Who We Are | |
| Dr. Peter G. Chait is a Paediatric
Interventional Radiologist at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada. Dr.
Chait has become increasingly involved in developing new, minimally invasive treatments
for children with bowel / fecal incontinence. He, together with Dr. Barry Shandling, has
pioneered a new antegrade colonic enema technique involving the insertion of a cecostomy
(catheter into the cecum) using image guidance. By the year 2000, Dr. Chait will
have performed approximately 150 cecostomy insertions in children ranging from 2 - 20
years of age. He has also designed and developed a new low-profile cecostomy called the
Chait Trapdoor Cecostomy catheter, which has aleady proven to have a significant
impact on the lives of these children with bowel / fecal incontinence. email: Peter.Chait@cecostomy.com |
|
| Dr. Barry Shandling, Professor Emeritus of Clinical Surgery at the University of Toronto, is a Pediatric Surgeon who has devoted a lifetime of research to the problems of fecal incontinence complicating the lives of patients with such conditions as spina bifida, imperforate anus and paraplegia. He developed the Enema Continence Catheter, which is in use around the world, for the management of these problems, using a leak-proof enema device. Now, with his unique concept of the percutaneous cecostomy, and utilizing the expertise of Dr. Peter Chait, Interventional Radiologist, there is available a non-operative, inexpensive and predictably reliable method of ensuring complete bowel continence. | |
